When to book your bridal makeup artist
In South Africa, good artists book out for peak season (October–April) months in advance. Secure your date 3–6 months ahead — earlier for December weddings. The trial then happens 4–8 weeks before the day: close enough that your skin and tan are realistic, far enough to adjust the plan.
If your wedding is outside a major centre, confirm travel early. Most artists (Glamr included) travel — but the morning schedule has to be built around it.
What happens at a bridal trial
The trial is a design session, not a preview. Bring photos of your dress, your hair plan, your inspiration — and honest opinions. A good artist will build the look with you, photograph it in daylight and flash, and take notes so the wedding morning is execution, not experimentation.
Wear white or something close to your dress colour. Looks read completely differently against white than against a T-shirt.
The wedding morning, scheduled
The single most common bridal makeup disaster is time. Every face in the party needs 45–75 minutes, and the bride goes second-to-last — late enough to be fresh, early enough to breathe. Your artist should give you a written schedule; hold everyone to it.
Build in a 20-minute buffer before photos. It always gets used.
Making it last: heat, tears and dance floors
South African weddings are warm and long. Long-wear is technique, not one product: prepped skin, thin layers, targeted waterproofing at the eyes, and a proper setting protocol. Ask your artist how the look survives to midnight — the answer tells you everything about their experience.
